14U wins the State Championship!
Our 14U – O’Hara team went on an extremely impressive run this weekend in the Zero Gravity Massachusetts State Championship going 6-0 and capturing the D3 State Championship. In pool play, the beat Evolution by 20 points (49-29), Mass Attack by 23 (69-46), and KSC Thunder by 26 (44-18). This earned them first place in their pool and a chance to advance to the Championship Bracket.
They defeated ASA in the quarterfinals by 23 (54-31). In the semi-finals, they beat the NS Ballerz by 10 (47-37). Finally in the championship game, they secured another 10 point victory over RABC (61-51). In those 6 games, they averaged 54 points per game and 35 points against per game. Jon Ng was named MVP of the tournament.
This is the team’s 2nd tournament championship in a row after with the 15 and Under Championship at last week’s Play for Pink tournament in Hanover. So far on the season, they have gone undefeated in pool play and finished in 1st place in their pool in 4 out of 5 tournaments (including the past 4 in a row) and have played in 3 championship games (winning the past 2).
More important that the wins, is that this group is playing the right way. They are very unselfish, team-first players that are working hard and playing smart. This group is very determined to get better and will keep looking to improve every single day. They will look to build on their success this weekend at the Zero Gravity Battle for the Belt tournament as well as defending their state title in Zero Gravity Nationals on June 11th - 12th.
